This densely packed paperback, an almost scrapbook-like combination of text, photos, drawings, renderings and facsimiles of print media, is both a culmination and a continuation for various projects realized to date by Support Structure, a collaboration between London-based architect Celine Condorcelli and artist/curator Gavin Wade. The Support Structure Manifesto (2004) declares the intention to “design and create a universally adaptive Support Structure in support of artifacts, information and human activities…” and vows to focus “on the interface between user and system.” Using writings from almost 50 artist-thinkers as varied as El Lissitzky, Gordon Matta-Clark, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Andrea Fraser, the editors achieve their goal of a manual “to restore attention to one of the neglected, yet crucial modes through which we apprehend and shape the world.”
