U-TURN VOLUME 3
30 Years of Contemporary Art in China (1988-1992)
U-TURN 3 is part of a new series on contemporary Chinese art. Each volume is a compendium of art-historical articles grouped together in a unique format: a custom plastic sleeve filled with separate illustrated fold-outs. This volume covers the period between 1988 and 1992, and includes almost encyclopedic texts on the National Art Museum of China’s controversial China/Avant-Garde, a watershed, agenda setting exhibition that was famously closed not once, but twice: self-exiled Chinese artists, who chose to live abroad following the protests and crackdown at Tiananmen Square in 1989; the New Student Generation, which rose to prominence during the early years of the 1990s; and the New Analyst group, which pursued a conceptually rigorous distillation of art into principles of instruction.
