Heart of Glass: Paintings and Drawings 1967-2012
Stephan Berg (Ed.)
A New York-based painter born in San Diego, Reed is a Guggenheim Fellow whose work is included in important international collections. This extensively illustrated retrospective exhibition catalog displays Reed’s abstract work and highlights him as a colorist whose narrow “brushstroke” paintings collapse the distance between European and American painting. Although best known for the “bedroom paintings” in which he inserted his own work into key scenes from Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, he also finds a way to replace the frenzied subjectivity of Abstract Expressionism with a cool, seductive aestheticism. Essays by curator Stephan Berg, Christoph Schreyer and Richard Shiff.
