This collection of more than 100 new abstract canvases, carefully reproduced in this book with its unusual format, is the result of one of the most intensive phases of work by master German painter Günther Förg in recent years. Förg places a sequence of calculated color fields into a basic grid, which changes from format to format, giving each individual painting its own tonal rhythm. Curator Rudi Fuchs observes in his excellent essay that these works bring to mind Mondrian’s seminal painting, Victory Boogie Woogie, hailing the “primordial energy” of Forg’s brushstrokes in service of his “vigorous abstraction.” Another important collection from this leader in German contemporary art.
