Ralph Müller
Wum
In this exhibition catalog, German painter Ralph Müller systematically ploughs the furrow of an artistic outsider. His diabolical plot – to capture the world – doesn’t require any templates: it is rooted in the insanity and the banality of our daily lives. The comic absurdity of Muller’s images incorporate influences from wooden spoons to egg warmers, plastic jars to piggy banks. Yet his seemingly naive images reference the extremely colorful palette of Memphis Design, the decalcomania of a Max Ernst and the tonal intensity of a Mark Rothko. Muller is sending us messages about how comic subject matter has a deeper meaning.
