Rotterdam artist Olaf Mooij is famous for his hilarious car sculptures, like the Braincar, a car whose top has been transformed into a giant replica of the human brain. During the day, the car drives through the city, and at night it dreams of its day through video projections on the matte white brain surface. This generously illustrated exhibition catalog, a retrospective reaching back to 1999, also includes the DJ Mobile (with a professional sound system, 14 speakers and a built-in DJ booth), the car condoms called Rubbers, and installation photos of smaller works. “I try to make artworks that are related to people to help them understand art,” says Mooij, whose influence range from Dada to Detroit. “I also want to put humor in my art that will make people smile.” With several essays in English and Dutch.
