Marrakech Biennale 5
Hicham Khalidi & Amanda Sarroff (Eds.)
With over 70,000 visitors to its fifth incarnation, the Marrakech Biennale is well on its way to international renown as a trilingual and proudly interdisciplinary North African biennial of contemporary art, literature, film and performance. Founded by Briton Vanessa Bronson in 2005, the biennial aims to use the “soft power” of the arts to provoke meaningful change in Morocco. The fifth edition, titled Where Are We Now? featured over 90 international artists and 30 site-specific commissions around various neighborhoods of Marrakech. This sizeable publication is a document and reflection of that celebration from artists, scholars, and critics, notably including Jamal Abdennassar, Keren Cytter, Shezad Dawood, Leif Elggren, Natasha Hoare, Amine Kabbaj, Driss Ksikes, Walid Raad, Simon Njami and Kaelen Wilson-Goldie, among many others!
