The idea of a legend – a larger-than-life fable, a marvelous story – seems like a thing of the past in our 24/7, instant-everything world. But for the 2008 Legend exhibition in France, a group of 30 international artists took a look at how human beings still create intensified visions of the world, legends for the present day. This companion book to the exhibition features recent works by David Altmejd, Peter Coffin, Anne Collier, Jason Meadows, Pae White, Lisa Yuskavage, and many others. Texts by Jean-Philippe Antoine, Craig Buckley, Yoann Gourmel and Raimundas Malasauskas that expand on the meaning of a legend, which traditionally is based on secrets, lies and – often – truth.
