Take 13 prominent Mexican architect/designers, none of whom have ever worked in glass, and ask each to “build” one drinking glass, to be produced by Mexico City’s Nouvel Studio, one of the world’s top artistic glass producers. That’s the origin of this extraordinary book, which follows the thinking process of each designer with quotations and drawings, and the technical challenges of production with brilliant photography of the glass-blowing and fabricating processes. The resulting volume is more than an exhibition catalog (from the Franz Meyer Museum in Mexico City): it’s an elegant document for anyone interested in high design or consumer design, glass art or even beautiful housewares.
