The Album (1st)
A unique fusion of visual and audio work, this book-CD combination brings together an international collection of popular artists including the indie-rock Zazen Boys, who combine influences ranging from Frank Zappa to John Coltrane, and Mark Mothersbaugh, formerly of DEVO, who now writes movie and television soundtracks. Planned and edited by Kurando Furuya from Japan’s very hip SIM Magazine, the Album is an art book which uses visuals to inspire music, and a music “book” which uses a variety of musical styles to inspire visuals. “Like the sounds surrounding your ordinary life, you can enjoy leafing through the book as you would leaf through a photograph album,” says Furuya. The Album is intended as the antithesis of traditional music, graphics and photographs, creating a double-sided visual and audio treat that transcends words. The creators wanted to present the viewer/listener with a new type of pleasure, a powerful new way to touch music and art.
