Egbert Haneke
Vis Motrix
Egbert Haneke’s photographs provide a sharply delineated view of the ordinary: the unspectacular, everyday things that are everywhere in the world that surrounds us. Using modified dye transfer, a 1930s printing process that creates a spatial depth, richness and presence not often achieved in photography, the German-born Haneke’s images are brilliant and rich juxtapositions of the incongruous: sunlight on sidewalks, windowpanes dissecting landscape vistas, the striped lines of crosswalks compositionally photographed as radiant forms, or yellow marigolds next to stone-colored sidewalks. Meaningless and mundane objects acquire beauty and resonance in Haneke’s eyes, as shown in this hardbound exhibition catalog of large-format photography.
